2026 PHUSE SDE in Utrecht
On Wednesday, 10 June 2026, the Single Day Event will take place in Utrecht. As in previous years, OCS Life Sciences has the honour of hosting this event. The theme of the day is The Future of Life Sciences Data: Integration, Innovation and Strategy. Jules van der Zalm (OCS Life Sciences) and Paul Vervuren (Danone Research & Innovation) will serve as SDE Chairs. And finally, our colleague Fenna Hensen will also be giving a presentation. Data management in the exploration of novel biomarkers

Biomarkers are crucial in clinical trials because they help assess disease progression, predict or monitor treatment responses, and support faster, more targeted decision-making. Exploratory biomarkers are not yet validated for clinical use and are used to gain biological insights.
When exploratory biomarker data is analysed at external laboratories it is important to know and understand how the biomarker is measured, what output is generated and in which structure the data will be shared with the sponsor. Due to its exploratory nature, multiple external (small) specialty labs can be used resulting in variation in the way data is collected and shared. Challenges lie, for example, in standardising incoming data in such a way downstream processes can be made more efficiently by automatisation.
This presentation will focus on the need for exploratory biomarker research; the challenges faced in data management while working with many external laboratories and how these challenged were tackled.
