PHUSE Single Day Events, Utrecht

On Thursday, April 17, 2025, Utrecht will host the PHUSE Single Day Event, where we are proud to be one of the event hosts. Our colleague Jules van der Zalm is co-chairing the event alongside Paul Vervuren (Danone Nutricia Research).  Guiding presentations on the theme: Driving Success in Biometrics: Tools, Techniques, and Practices for Quality and Efficiency in Clinical Trials. Additionally, our colleague Kai Wanke will be presenting—his abstract is available on this page. We look forward to an insightful day of knowledge-sharing and networking!

The use of process flows to automate clinical trial data processing

by Kai Wanke

In clinical trials, new data is continuously being collected and processed. Processing steps may include importing the data, converting it into an appropriate file type and data model, and performing quality control.
To always process the latest version of the data, repeated execution of these steps at defined intervals is required.

To reduce repetitive manual work, we use the functionalities provided by process flows to automate data processing.
Using IDEs such as Eclipse, it is possible to design process flows, which can be employed to execute programs consecutively and conditionally, handle exceptions, and send user notifications.

During this talk, I will use our approach to use process flows in the SAS Life Science Analytics Framework (LSAF) as an example to discuss how process flows can automate the dataflow of clinical trials while minimizing the need for manual intervention.
