Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) AI for Software Development: Insights from an implemented Clinical Project
by Ajay Sundaresan and Stephan van Driel
While programmers and software developers fear the rise of agentic AI for programming, many struggle with producing useful and usable results. We have found that leveraging AI for development efficiency while maintaining essential human oversight allows you to create robust software governance frameworks.
Through a real-life software development project using agentic AI to write Python code, we encountered critical challenges requiring human intervention throughout every software development lifecycle stage. By navigating those challenges, we have been successful in the development, documentation, and validation of software solutions with real-life applications in a clinical setting.
In this presentation we will talk you through our experience in this project, highlighting three essential areas where human oversight proves invaluable: ensuring accuracy and reliability, enabling accountability, and maintaining transparency and explainability.
